What is the Central California Adaptive Sports Center?

The Central California Adaptive Sports Center is a nonprofit that provides outdoor adventures to persons with disabilities. We offer adaptive sports programs year-round in the Central Sierra, promoting independence, confidence, and physical activity in a supportive environment.

Who are your outdoor adventure programs for?

We provide programs to individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities. 

Can family members participate?

​Depending on space and availability, we welcome family members and caregivers to participate.

Is there a minimum or maximum age to participate?

Participants must be a minimum of 5 years of age. There is no maximum age.

What activities do you provide?

How do I sign up for a program?

To begin any individual program inquiry, it is important that we understand each participant's abilities and interests. You (your parent, guardian, or caregiver) must fill out our registration form. Please be thorough and accurate.

 

After we receive your registration form will contact you to schedule a program and answer any questions.

Is all equipment provided?

We provide activity and camping equipment so you and your family can focus on enjoying the experience. For summer camping programs we do ask that you bring your own sleeping bag and pillow.

Are meals provided?

Yes. All meals are included. Prior to your program, you will receive a meal selection form to indicate any preferences and dietary restrictions.

SUMMER: During summer day programs we provide lunch. During weekend camping programs, we provide 5 meals, 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. We also provide snacks at the campfire activities in the evening. Water, lemonade, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available at the beverage station throughout the day and evening. Light appetizers are provided on Friday night. Be sure to have dinner before arriving at the Adaptive Sports Center.

WINTER: We provide lunch during all winter day programs.

What does it cost to participate?

After you have completed registration, one of our staff will contact you to discuss pricing, as we have numerous grants and scholarships that may apply to you. 

Where are these programs provided?

In summer, we operate out of our adaptive sports center campground in Shaver Lake, CA. In the winter, our primary location is our adapitve sports center at China Peak Mountain Resort. Please note that your program meet-up location will be provided in your reservation confirmation.

For most summer programs we travel from the office to our lakeside campground. We are required to travel on the dirt road to our campground in a caravan. In most cases, we will provide transportation to our campground. The road is an improved dirt road, requiring a truck or SUV with all-wheel or 4-wheel drive. If you have a vehicle that meets these requirements, you may bring your own vehicle to camp.

What is the campground like? Is there a bathroom and a shower?

Our campground is located right on the shores of Shaver Lake. This campground is fully equipped with:

  • Accessible paver pathways

  • Campfire & dining areas

  • Bathrooms

  • Shower facility

  • Tents on wooden platforms, constructed at wheelchair height

What if I do not have clothing for winter activities?

Start by reviewing our suggested winter clothing and supplies checklist to see what you'll need for your program. If you're missing anything, we have a limited selection of jackets, snow pants, gloves, and other winter gear available to loan upon request. If you need any clothing for your program, please let us know in advance.

I don't know if my car can make it to China Peak in the winter. Do I need chains? What are the road conditions?

During the winter, CHP requires carrying chains in your car at all times when traveling on Highway 168. For current road conditions and chain requirements, visit the CalTrans website.

  • China Peak Office
    Our winter hours at the Adaptive Sports Center at China Peak are 9am-5pm, Thursday-Monday. 

     

  • Shaver Lake Office
    Our office administration hours are 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Thursday.
    Our winter program hours at our Shaver Lake office are to be determined based on your reservation, meeting at 9:30am on the day of your program.
